Oni (鬼) is the demon of Japanese lore — the horned, unbending spirit that became a symbol of raw power and protection. This katana wears that name in its blade: a Damascus pattern that swirls like smoke trapped in steel, evoking the inner strength the oni stands for.

Forging & Steel

The Oni’s blade is Damascus steel — layers of high-carbon stock forge-welded and folded so the grain surfaces as a flowing, swirling pattern with subtle grey tones, no two blades quite alike. It is the folded grain that no stamped or cast blade can imitate. Presented as a collector’s and decorative piece, the Oni leads with that artistry on the shelf rather than asking to be swung at tatami. Each pattern is drawn out in the quench and the polish, so the grain you see is structural rather than printed on, and no two Oni blades carry quite the same swirl. Wipe it down and keep it dry on the stand and the Damascus figure holds its depth for years.

Fittings & Mounts

A zinc-alloy tsuba carries samurai-inspired motifs, matched by a zinc-alloy menuki set and two bamboo mekugi. The saya is light lacquered wood, and the tsuka is wrapped in synthetic shagreen leather.

Usage

The Oni is presented as a collector’s and display katana — its strength is the folded Damascus grain shown on a stand, not test-cutting. Mounted in lacquered wood with synthetic shagreen and a samurai-motif guard, it presents as a complete sword on the stand at an accessible entry price. For a sharpened cutter at this entry price, see the manganese Katana Rei or the bo-hi Katana Kamon, and browse the full katana collection.
